Bring the web to your data
Hex has always been able to search your company’s data, now search the web.
Your warehouse has everything that's happened inside your business. But you often also need to know what's happening outside of it to make sense of it.
What did this account announce last week? What's the industry standard for gross retention right now? Can you enrich this list with current headcount and funding status?
Which is why today we're introducing web search for the Hex Agent backed by Parallel, so you can bring live context from the web right to where you're already asking questions.
How it works
Web search is built into the Hex Agent as a native tool. When a question calls for something outside your warehouse, the agent reaches for it automatically. No tab switching, or copying & pasting into other tools.
Today we’re launching with two capabilities:
- Search: Ask an open-ended question and the agent finds the answer. Drop "what are current industry benchmarks for SaaS gross retention?" into a thread and it'll return the answer alongside your internal data.
- URL Extract: Paste a URL and the agent reads the page and can extract what's relevant and brings it back into your analysis.
Both work wherever the Hex Agent works today, and can be leveraged via Slack or our MCP.
Web search is on for your workspace today, in public beta, for Professional, Team, and Enterprise plans. Admins can turn it off from AI agent settings if needed.
What it looks like in practice
The lore behind this feature? Parallel had been using the Hex Agent and kept hitting the same wall. Their internal data was in Hex, but the external context that made it meaningful wasn't. For a company whose entire mission is bringing web context to AI agents (and are the best at it!), that gap was hard to ignore. So they reached out to us and we built it together, and they were our first beta testers!
Now before a customer meeting, Parallel's forward-deployed engineers can pull up usage data in Hex — and in the same thread as product analytics or revenue data, check whether that customer just raised a round, shipped a new feature, or quietly changed their pricing.
A similar pattern shows up everywhere:
- A marketer asking why engagement dropped. Now the agent can surface possible root causes with industry news and external events from the same week, right next to the internal data.
- An account rep walks into a renewal knowing product usage and whether the customer just hired a new CFO or shifted their pricing.
- An analyst enriching a customer table used to mean exporting a CSV, running it through another tool, and importing it back. Now the agent can pull the extra info directly into their analysis.
Start using it today
Every question your team asks in Hex is backed by the context from your data team. Web search means that foundation now covers questions it never could before.
We're excited to keep building with Parallel, their platform has a lot more to offer, and we're already exploring what's next. We'd love to hear what you build with it.
