We’re excited to share a new integration that connects Hex with Databricks Unity Catalog Metric Views. Starting today, you can define metrics and business logic natively in Databricks and bring them directly into Hex — making it faster and easier to deliver consistent, governed insights to the business.
Hundreds of data teams use Hex with Databricks to power their most important work, combining Hex’s flexibility with the scale and governance of the Data Lakehouse.
With Databricks UC Metric Views, you can define “rules of the road” for your data: agreed-upon measures, dimensions, and logic that everyone in your organization can use consistently. Instead of rewriting calculations in every notebook, dashboard, or app, you set them once and reuse them everywhere.
The result is fewer discrepancies, less repetitive work, and most importantly, a trusted foundation for analytics and AI.
The Databricks UC Metric Views integration is available as a public beta on all plans.
Metric views make up Databricks’ native semantic modeling layer, built right into the Unity Catalog. This means they inherit the same governance and security policies as the rest of your Databricks environment.
As a launch partner, we’ve added direct support for metric views in Hex so you can now:
Browse metric views directly from your Databricks connection in Hex.
Query with SQL in the notebook, without redefining metrics.
Build data apps that are backed by governed metrics, ensuring consistency from exploring to publishing.
In Hex, you get the best of both worlds. You can leverage metric views for on-rails exploration, ensuring business users interact with consistent, trusted definitions. At the same time, data teams have the freedom to go off-road — querying raw tables, mixing SQL and Python, and tapping into Hex’s rich no-code cells and built-in visualizations.
This kind of flexibility is what makes it possible to keep up with the pace of the business and the endless ad hoc questions from stakeholders. Instead of getting boxed into modeling single-use logic, you can move faster while still grounding your analyses in trusted metrics when it matters most.
By centralizing semantic logic, Hex’s integration with metric views helps data teams scale governance while unlocking consistent insights across the entire organization.
It’s easy to get going:
Define a metric view in Unity Catalog.
Connect Hex to your Databricks environment (or ask your workspace Admin for help).
Start browsing, querying, and building apps.
From there, you’re off to the races with reliable metrics at your fingertips.

We’ll be expanding the metric views footprint inside of Hex to make it easier than ever for non-technical users to ask and answer questions with data. These governed workflows will include:
No-code data analysis using measures and dimensions from metric views inside Hex’s point-and-click Explore interface.
Conversational analysis with AI and agents in Hex leveraging metric views.
In the spirit of interoperability, you’ll soon be able to use our first-class AI-powered semantic authoring capability to author metric views in Hex, and push these semantic definitions out to Databricks for a single source of truth.
Hex is where data teams and business users come together to explore, analyze, and share insights. With our UC Metric Views integration, you can now bring trusted context from Databricks straight into those workflows — no extra modeling required.
Data teams can now have speed and trust together in one platform instead of having to choose between these or juggle multiple tools. We’re thrilled to deepen our partnership with Databricks and can’t wait to see what you build in Hex.
