I sometimes say Hex is a very selfish company — and not just in the normal way for-profit corporations are. I say it because the whole company exists to build the data tool we always wished we had: intelligent, integrated, collaborative, and flexible.

We had the pain! Jumping between fragmented tools. Copy-pasting queries. Sharing a screenshot of a chart in a PDF of a deck via an email. We hated it, and were initially confused why something like Hex didn’t exist in the cloud era – and then we decided to build it.

And now, a few years in, over 1,500 teams worldwide use Hex to do their most critical data work. It excels at the kind of deep-dive data analysis that drives actual decisions — not just another dashboard. Teams love it because it replaces the miasma of one-off queries, local notebooks, legacy BI tools, standalone AI chatbots, and everything in between.

And yet! We’re still just scratching the surface of what is possible.

Into the era of agentic analytics

Our primary and sole focus as a company is re-(re-)defining analytics workflows now in the AI era. Everyone knows LLMs can write SQL, everyone knows they need good context to do that, everyone knows that standalone chatbots aren’t the answer.

What is? We think it’s one platform that captures the whole virtuous cycle of data work:

  • Frontier exploratory data analysis, looking at the new, novel, and gnarly questions that drive real decisions – with AI agents as a partner all the way through;

  • Canonizing and curating the results as data apps and semantic models — both of which provide valuable context for AI, and can also be built and maintained with AI’s help;

  • Self-serve exploration using UI and AI, allowing anyone to go from a natural-language question to an answer.

All of this — on top of a performant, reliable, and secure platform — is the essential gist of what the entire company is working on, and the core of what we’re delivering to customers going forward.

To us, this is much bigger than building a notebook, or BI tool, or app builder, or AI thing — it’s building a system for insight that can use data to connect teams and help them better understand their worlds.

Raising more money to make this real

Yes ok, this is a fundraising post — and we’re excited to share that we’ve raised $70M from Avra, a16z, Amplify, Box Group, Next Legacy, Redpoint, Sequoia, and Snowflake. Everyone in this round are folks we have known, worked with, and admired for years — and we’re very fortunate to have the opportunity to build with them going forward.

With this, we give ourselves the time and resources to keep building a great product, and tell lots of folks about it. And it comes on the heels of a lot of other exciting things, including crossing some major customer and revenue milestones, and welcoming the amazing Hashboard team – who are already contributing to this vision in profound ways.
