A few years ago, Nimi from BoxGroup introduced me to Carlos Aguilar, the founder of Hashboard. We had similar stories: we were both frustrated by data problems we had experienced firsthand, and were starting companies to settle those scores.
In the time since, Carlos and the Hashboard team punched well above their weight, beating out much larger competitors at customers large and small. The team has built a delightful, opinionated business intelligence product for exploring and presenting data.
Carlos and I kept in touch, and became fans of each other’s work. When we caught up a few months ago, we realized how much our interests, visions, and roadmaps were converging. What started as idle conversation got more serious – and started centering on what it’d look like to work together.
So… today I’m so excited to announce that Hex has acquired Hashboard! [1]
Our teams are already hard at work building toward our shared vision for the future of data. As a combined corporate conglomerate, we have three big focus areas:
Building the best product for deep-dive data work in the age of AI: our combined teams are hard at work on a next generation of our Magic features – including some experiences we can uniquely build on Hex’s platform and context.
Making it easy for everyone to use data: customers loved Hashboard’s self-serve BI offering, and we’re excited to incorporate a lot of what they got right, including semantic modeling, visualization, and AI into Hex.
Performance, at scale: Hex is an incredibly powerful and flexible platform, and we’re focused on making it easier to make experiences feel performant and snappy, even for the most complex and demanding projects. Hashboard brings a lot of perspective and experience here, too!
If you’re a Hashboard customer, you’ve already heard from Carlos that the product will stay live for you for the foreseeable future. For those of you not already using Hex, we’d love to help you do that, and migrate all of your workflows over time.
If you’re a Hex customer, you’ve already seen early work from the Hashboard team in some recent improvements. Over the coming months, you can look forward to a lot more across data exploration, semantic modeling, agentic analytics, visualization, and beyond. We can’t wait to show you all the interesting and exciting (and slightly weird!) stuff we’re thinking of.
Exciting things ahead 💜,
Barry
